Early Joshua Tree ... A work in Progress. Howard began visiting Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree in the 1950’s. They purchased a 5 acre piece of land around 1958 in Yucca Valley and built a cabin. The old cabin has been removed (2006ish). They then purchased a 20 acre piece of land in Joshua Tree near the Joshua Tree National Monument (old name). They build and named the street “Cougar Lane” which was completely on their property. They contracted with the Arch Brothers Construction for the construction of a house that Howard Designed.

He decided that he was getting out of the ceramic business and decided to make figurenes in another medium. He tried plaster and plastic - but nothing was right or the smell was just too much. Soon he purchased an electric kiln and went back to ceramics.
